What is it?
Collagen is a protein which gives structure to skin. In our bodies it is found in bones, tendons, ligaments and skin. Collagen gives texture, resilience and shape to skin. The collagen used at MCF is purified bovine collagen. The appropriate “thickness” or strengths of collagen is injected into facial lines and wrinkles.

People who want to "plump up" or "fill in" any lines or wrinkles on the face or enhance the lips. MCF specialises in the "Paris Lip."

Method?
A simple patch test is required to make sure you are not allergic to collagen. A small dose of collagen is injected under the skin of your forearm; if there is no reaction you can receive collagen treatment after four weeks. Approximately, only 3% of people are allergic to the product.

The Treatment?
Extremely small amounts of collagen are injected along the lines in the face. Collagen contains a local anaesthetic and no topical anaesthetic is required when injecting fine lines on the face. However with lip procedures, the doctor recommends a local block to eliminate pain. This local block is just like the block administered by the dentist.

How will it feel?
There may be a slight tingling sensation as the collagen is injected, but generally this is a painless and quite comfortable treatment.

Results?
The skin will look smoother with the lines greatly diminished. Slight swelling and redness is to be expected, but this will subside in a matter of hours.

How often is treatment required?
Treatment may have to be performed twice a year, depending on the area.
